Honey Lime Fruit Kabobs

Fruit is always a great option to bring to picnics, gatherings, or just visiting a friend. Fruit salad is okay, but then you’re stuck using two hands to eat it. What if you have to hold a baby? Or a drink? Or a purse? Or you’re holding a purse with a baby in it who is holding a drink. That would be cool. (this is why I don’t have children). I digress. These are easy and fun treats that people can grab without the commitment of a bowl of fruit salad.

The best part about this recipe is that it isn’t even a recipe. You can choose any fruit you’d like and cut it up and throw it on a stick. My suggestion would be to chose all different colors and textures. We eat with our eyes first, after all!

The hardest part about this is cutting the fruit because it’s time consuming. However, most grocery stores have pre-cut fruit in the produce refrigeration section. Go for the freshest option, though. Your guests will appreciate it. Who likes mushy grapes and sour pineapple? No one. Nobody likes that.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup red grapes
  • 1/2 cup green grapes
  • 1 small pineapple, cut into chunks
  • 2 medium crisp apples, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 small watermelon, cubed
  • 1/2 cantaloupe, cubed
  • Juice from 2-3 limes
  • 1 1/2 tbsp honey

Directions:

Use the juice from one of the limes to coat the apple chunks immediately after cutting them. This helps them from turning brown.
After all the fruit is cubed (grapes stay whole) toss them all in a large bowl including the apple which will already have the lime on it. In a smaller separate bowl whisk lime(s) and honey. Toss it in the fruit until evenly coated. Next, start skewering! Alternate colors and fruit so it looks pretty and every skewer has a variety of fruit on it.

Got leftover fruit? Too much watermelon? A thousand grapes? Skewer those too!

*Note: Prep within less than 24 hours before serving for the freshest, juiciest fruit.
