If You’re Sexy and You’re Pooping Clap Your Hands

Let’s face it, having an Inflammatory Bowel Disease isn’t pretty no matter what gender you are. But I happen to believe that men can talk about it a bit more freely than women if they chose. Somehow it’s a bit more accepting for guy saying, “Ah man I gotta drop a D” than if I said it. For the record, I say it. And I honestly don’t care. But then again, I am single so maybe that’s not the best approach.

Anyways, it can be hard to keep your self esteem up and feel pretty when your body is telling you otherwise. We ladies are apparently supposed to never poop and always be pretty and delicate and sexy. We all know this isn’t true. Unless you’re Beyonce. She wakes up like that. Flawless.

Pretty-toad

As a female, how can I feel pretty when I have an ugly IBD?

When you’re in a funk and feeling gross because your intestines hate you, here are some things to make you feel pretty again.

WEAR CUTE UNDERWEAR
Even if no one sees them but you, start your day with that bright pink pair…with lace…or the leopard print. “Hey guys, I gots cute undawears on. I’m sexy and I know it!”

GET YOUR NAILS DONE
It’s materialistic and girly, but it’s the little things that can make you feel pretty, oh so pretty. And I pity anybody who’s not you today.
Suck at painting your nails? ME TOO! Try these Sally Hansen nail strips.

GO FOR A WALK.
Preferably in the sunshine. Get fresh air and vitamin D. It’s a natural mood booster.

ATTEND CCFA EVENTS.
Get involved. Meet other people in the same situation as you. If you’re near Connecticut check out this fundraiser event by an awesome local family that I strongly support.

EXERCISE. STRETCH.
Run. Jump. Do yoga. Whatever. Just get your body moving. The endorphins will send signals around your body that tell you how incredibly awesome and pretty you are.

LIGHT CANDLES IN THE BATHROOM.
It’ll be like pooping at the spa…right? Like this?

So sensual…

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT YOU.
It’s okay to ask people to cheer you up.

JOIN A DATING WEBSITE.
…even if it’s only to sift through funny messages and boost your self-esteem. No matter what you look like there will be a dude that tells you how beautiful you are. Enjoy.

LISTEN TO MOOD SPECIFIC MUSIC.
Find a playlist online (or Spotify) for uplifting tunes or that heart and soul R&B to make you feel a little suttin’ suttin’. There’s also never anything wrong about throwing on some 90s pop and messing up the chorus to MMMBop.

EAT CLEAN.

I love all these suggestions for every day of my LIFE and I don’t even have IBD. Lighting candles and playing music and maybe dropping into child’s pose right now, thank YOUUU!

I thought the same thing after I wrote it…you definitely don’t need to have a disease to do these things to feel pretty! 🙂 Bring on the candles and Hanson! LOL!

this stuff is so true although i disagree about guys being more open about this disease!! they are SUPER SHY and never want to appear weak. i’ve noticed this when i go to support groups- zero guys- and at remicade infusions. the guys never wanted to talk about why they were there even though we all knew!

by the way, i wear cute underwear ALL the time and nobody sees them!! haha i love victoria’s secret lacy silk ones. there’s no way i’d risk wearing them during a flare for fear of ruining them!

I agree. As a whole, I think a lot of IBDers silence themselves when talking about it. It’s a personal and sensitive issue… but I know many guys without a disease that are proud of their bathroom trips. I’ll never quite understand it. HAHA!
Victoria’s Secret has great options! I do the same thing. Gotta keep the flare undies separate. 🙂
